IV Sedation Dentistry

IV Sedation Dentistry Upper St. Claire

Dental procedures can be scary for some people to handle. Since they are necessary to maintain your oral health, we offer IV sedation to help put you at ease. With IV sedation, you can be put into a "twilight" or "sleep" state, helping you to feel at peace and relaxation during your procedure.

How Does IV Sedation Work?

For IV sedation, we will schedule a second doctor to administer your sedation. The doctor will introduce a thin needle into a vein in your hand or arm. This needle is connected to an intravenous tube, delivering the sedative directly to your bloodstream for safe and effective sedation.

For those who fear needles, a numbing cream can be applied to the area before the needle is inserted.

Benefits of IV Sedation

IV sedation at Gregory Peterson, DMD & Associates offers patients a variety of benefits, including:

IV Sedation is Safe

During your procedure, the doctor will continually monitor your oxygen levels and pulse to make sure that you do not negatively react to the sedative.

IV Sedation Has Minimal side effects

After the procedure, you can expect to feel a bit groggy, which is why we require you to have a driver to and from the procedure. Other than some mild grogginess, you will experience little discomfort after the procedure.

IV Sedation is Quick and Effective

Since the sedative is administered directly to the bloodstream, you will achieve the effects of the sedation in a shorter duration compared to other methods.

IV Sedation Eliminates pain

You will not feel any pain while under IV sedation, but you will be able to breathe and move on your own.
